3 John (Jack) Arthur Leder Sr., 88, of Mayville passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2013, at Hospice Home Of Hope, Fond du Lac, Wis.

Jack was born on Dec. 8, 1924, to Arthur and Meta (Glander) Leder in Fond du Lac, Wis.

A lifelong resident of Mayville, Jack graduated from Mayville High School in 1942 and enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps to serve with the 442nd Troop Carrier Wing. After discharge, Jack remained in service with the U.S. Air Force Reserve (94th TAC) and U.S. Army Reserve (84th DIV). He retired from military service in 1982 after 38 years. In 2010, Jack was pleased to participate in the Honor Flight to visit the World War II memorial in Washington, D.C., of which he was very proud.

On Aug. 20, 1955, Jack married Marilyn Jacobs of Wisconsin Rapids and they raised three children. Mayville has been their home for the past 58 years.

In 1984 Jack retired after 35 years with the Dodge County Police and Sheriffs Department where he was most proud of his role as Officer Friendly to elementary school children of Dodge County. After his retirement from the county, Jack served as director of emergency government and a member of the police and fire commission for the City of Mayville.

Jack was a devoted member of St. Johns Lutheran Church of Mayville and served on the board of trustees. Other memberships include WWII Glider Pilot Association, Air Force Association (charter member), National Rifle Association, American Legion Post 69 and the Buckhorn Lodge Hunt Club of McNaughton, Wis. Jack was an active bowler with various leagues, deer and pheasant hunter, lousy fisherman and avid car and airplane model builder.

Jack is survived by his wife, Marilyn, and daughters, Amy Leder (husband Dan Gerth) of Port Washington and Ann Runyard of Madison. Jack is preceded in death by his son, John in 1994 and his parents, Arthur and Meta.

Funeral services for Jack will be held at St. Johns Ev. Lutheran Church , Mayville, on Wednesday, June 26 at 11 a.m. A visitation for Jack will be held on Tuesday, June 25, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Koepsell Funeral Home in Mayville and also on Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow at St. Johns Lutheran Cemetery, Mayville, where graveside military rites will be conducted by Mayville American Legion Post #69.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Jack's honor may be made to the Dodge County Humane Society or St. Johns Lutheran Church, Mayville.

The family would like to acknowledge and thank the staff and volunteers at St. Agnes Hospital and the Hospice Home of Hope of Fond du Lac for the patience and kindness shown to Jack over the last year.
