Along with their own children, Alvaretta and Sam McLaughlin took into their home and reared Mr. McLaughlin's nephew, son of John McLaughlin - whose name was also Sam McLaughlin. His mother had died when Sam was just an infant. He was born July 4, 1890 in Texas and died October 21, 1957, in Los Angeles, California.
