Was born in a covered wagon on the way to their new farm in Pueblo CO. Was delivered by her sister "Mary" whom was assisted by younger "Dot". Didn't have a birth certificate, her father thought them a waste of time, was quoted
"Will that piece of paper make her any more born? NO, it's just a way to make me pay more taxes and a way for "THEM" to mind MY business!"
When she was a year and one half old her sister "Rene" was born. Their mother died in childbirth. At which time their father took them both into Colorado Springs and gave them up to a orphanage to be raised. He said
"On a farm, if you couldn't pull your own weight, he couldn't afford you. And the other girls couldn't be spared to tend them." When "Dot" married Elmer Rorabaugh two years later she went and reclaimed her sisters to raise.
"Rene"(Loraine) grew up (15 years old), she married Elmer's younger brother "Lace".
Esther,at age 14 , married "Dot's" ex-bow Charles Hysell, 15 years her senior. They moved to Riverbank,CA where they bought a 250 acre dairy and raised 3 daughters and one son. She divorced Charles in 1954 and married Jesse "Elt" Elton McHenry. They lived in Riverbank till their deaths. Esther 4 years before "Elt", who died more of a broken heart then the flu that was listed on the certificate. Charles died 20 years earlier from a heart attack in his yard while hoeing weeds.He never remarried.
