⁹ Merle George Renton passed away at 5:50 Tuesday afternoon at his residence at 159 S. Grove St. He had been ill one and one-half years. He was born November 13, 1895, in Superior Township, the son of Robert and Mary Warner Renton. He later moved to a farm near Milan with his parents where he lived until the spring of 1919 when he came to Ypsilanti where he had since resided. He married Miss Catherine C. Crippen Jan. 26, 1918. He had been interested in civic affairs for many years having been on the city council for six years, on the board of supervisors for two years, and having been a building inspector from 1942 to 1943. He was a member of the First Congregational Church, the Knights of Pythias, Masonic Order, Phoenix Lodge No. 13 F. and A. M. He entered into the contracting business in 1925 and was alone in the business until 1936 at which time Noel J. Walker became affiliated with him. The two purchased the hardware store formerly owned by the late Alex J. Nulan in January of 1944.

He is survived by three children, Mrs. Betty Dapprich, Mrs. Theo Johnson, and Miss Eugenia Renton, all of Ypsilanti, two grandchildren, Gary Alan and Frederick Merle Dapprich, his mother, Mrs. Mary Renton, Fort Wayne, Indiana, two sisters, Mrs. Franklin R. Wolfe, Dayton, Ohio, and Mrs. Earl Willoughby, also of Fort Wayne, three brothers, Herbert A., Ypsilanti, Roy D., Dearborn, and Robert Laurence, Detroit, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Friday at 2:20 p. m. at the Geer Funeral Home with Rev. Gordon Speer officiating assisted by Rev. William R. Shaw. Friends may call at the Funeral Home. Interment will be at Highland Cemetery.
