There is a major conflict with the ancestry of this person. Some researchers are showing his parents as George Shafter, Sr. and Elizabeth Remsburg while others are showing the parents as John Shafer and Elizabeth Linebaugh.
One other problem is that there were several George Shafers all born in or near Frederick County, Maryland at about the same time. Most of the other researchers provide a birth date for this George Shafer of 3 Mar 1829 but that year would conflict with all 3 census records of 1860, 1870, and 1880 while he was married to Mary Darner.
The birth date of 28 Jan 1828 for this George Shafer comes from Dorothy Danner on a Family Tree Maker CD published by Brøderbund Software, Inc., World Family Tree Vol. 001, Ed. 1, Tree #1276 (Release date: November 29, 1995).
