The gravestone for William and his wife, Margaret, is a white sandstone obelisk with the name WYMER in large block letters around the base. On one side the inscription reads "Father, William Wymer, Born Aug. 22, 1833, Died Mar. 15, 1908, Aged 75 Ys. 6 Ms. 17 Ds." However, this age will result in a calculated birth date of "August 27, 1832" and not the "August 22, 1833" inscribed on the monument. It is assumed that the dates are correct and that the monument inscriber made an incorrect age calculation.

• His obituary was published in the Tipton Advisor on 26 March 1908 in Tipton, IA.

William Wymer was born in Muskingum County, Ohio, August 22, 1833, and died March 15, 1908, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Linn, with whom he has lived the past 16 years. At his death he was 75 years, 6 months, and 17 days old. April 22, 1852 he was married to Marjorie Williams. To this union four children were born, one of whom with his wife preceded him to the better land. Three daughters remain to mourn his death. These are: Mrs. Spencer of Rochester, Mrs. Mackie of Dakota, and Mrs. Linn of Iowa township. All were here to attend the funeral which was held at Southwest Bethel Church where he was laid to rest beside his wife. Rev. Basham officiated. The deceased was an early settler coming to Iowa in 1852 and settling in Iowa township, Cedar county.

Those present at the funeral from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Mackie or Minot, North Dakota, Mr. and Mrs. Rhodes of Mechanicsville, and Mr. and Mrs. William Perry of Davenport.

NOTE - I have no idea just who "Chester LaRue" would be.

Based on the following email from Yvonne Linn on April 14, 2004, it can be safely assumed that the "Ann" or "Allie" Wymer in the 1880 census was Emily Alice Wymer and her age at the time of the census was 18:
"I have been in touch with Vern Elarth who descends from Emily Wymer and Alexander Mackie's daughter, Kate, and husband Theo Elarth. He is making me some copies of pictures he has of Clarence and Katie. He is also sending a copy of a family document, he thinks probably written by Katie, that gives Emily's birth date as 16 Jun 1861. That makes her the "Allie" in the 1880 census. It also makes more sense than the 1877 date we had from Eugene Linn's family tree."
