Daniel Lightfoot 1 3
- Born: Abt 1748, North Farnham Parish, Richmond County, VA, British Colonial America 4
- Marriage (1): Mary Hinds on 2 April 1771 in , Richmond County, VA 1 2
- Died: August 1838, , Fluvanna County, VA about age 90 1
General Notes:
Daniel's will was dated 21 Nov 1829 and filed for probate on 27 August 1838 in Fluvanna County, Virginia. Daniel owned 3 parcels of land totaling about 426 acres which he bequeathed to 4 of 5 of his daughters, for some reason not giving any land to daughter Elizabeth Hackney but rather bequeathing her only one Negro slave and one more Negro slave to Elizabeth's daughter. All the other 4 daughters received just over 100 acres each.
Of course the will gives no reason for this partiality or even why he specifically mentions only one grand-daughter and bequeaths her one slave when it is apparent that he had at least 7 other grandchildren at the time of his will. Perhaps the one daughter, Elizabeth, was already well-to-do and did not need any more land whereas the other daughters needed the land. Or perhaps there was a falling out between the father and Elizabeth. We'll never know. ----------------------------------------

Daniel is also in the 1820 US Census (p.62 pr 491) with males under 10, 16-26, 26-45, over 45, and females under 10, 16-26, over 45 (one in each age group), and 18 slaves. Because Daniel apparently never had any son, I therefore assume from this that at least one of their married daughters, children, and husbands were living in his household. Otherwise, there should have been no males in the census.
