Ray Gardner owned a grocery store and his father had it before him. The store was located in Hagerstown, Maryland. When he was courting Maude lease, he would travel from Hagerstown on the trolley and hire a horse and buggy in Frederick to take Maud out. Ray and Maude (Lease) Gardner are buried at Mount Olivet cemetery in Frederick, Maryland.
