  General Notes:

Her birth date is a subject of some confusion. For some unknown reason, a birth date of Feb 1851 was given on her 1900 US Census. Her age at death from the Calhoun County, WV Death Register calculates a birth date of 2 Feb 1851. Even her gravestone reportedly gives a birth year of 1851 but the year of 1851 cannot be correct. Susan's name appeared on the 1850 census with her parents on 4 Sep 1850 with an age of 4 months which means her true birth date was probably February of 1850.

Some indexes to the WV marriage records may indicate the name of her father as Daniel Barr instead of Samuel Barr. Almost all show the name of her mother as Rachel with a few documents showing her maiden name as Weaver. One index to her death records show her father's name as Samuel Barr whereas another shows it as Daniel Barr.

The appearance of the name Daniel in the records may be due to the fact that a very sloppily written name of Samuel can be interpreted as Daniel. In fact, the index of her death certificate shows the father's name as Daniel but a close examination of the handwritten name on the document shows it to actually be Samuel.
