James Arthur Mayhew ^{1 2}

   Cause of his death was Cancer of Bladder.

James, my father, was a very hard working man who had very little education. He had the ability to do many things and was constantly busy at some effort or another. He was clever at home repairs and home upgrading. An excellent wall-paperer and painter. Unfortunately, he lived most of his life during the depression period and never got much of a running start on life. As the war years came on and jobs became more plentiful he took several entry level jobs and always ended up in positions of authority. These were not days of big money and the most he ever made was something around $ 500 a month. A smoker, he developed bladder cancer in 1951 and had his bladder removed in two operations in 1952. He had radiation treatments after his operations and had one good year and then one horrible year just prior to his death.

My father and I were never close until just prior to his death. This was one of life's unfortunate happenings, and one of my regrets. He did not know that he also sired another son who's mother named him James. The second James was named James Calhoun Cordell after the Southern family who adopted him. He spent most of his life in South Carolina. A complete write up on my half brother James is in my private papers and will eventually be given to my children. My father is buried at Champion Cemetery at Champion, Ohio.
