There were two Cora Smiths living in Montcalm County, Michigan in 1880 that were born around 1865, the suspected birth year of the Cora Smith that later married George Merrifield.
The first was an 18 year old (born 1862) the was living with the L. W. Dickerson family in Montcalm County, Michigan. The other one was a 15 year old (born 1865) but she was the wife of John Smith. Even though the birth year of the married Cora Smith more closely matches the supposed birth year of the Cora that married George Merrifield, I suspect that it was the 18 year old (born 1862), that eventually became his wife.
