  General Notes:

I suspect that Emma's true given name was "Susan Emma Laurine". She apparently used only the name of Emma for much of her adult life but in the 1880 US Census her name appears as "Susan". This might cause any researcher to suspect that Joshua had a 2nd wife however the birth register for Marion County, West Virginia shows the entry for their son, Henry Joshua Fast, born on 13 Oct 1882 and the mother's name is entered as "Susan E. L. Fast". Additionally, they had another daughter born on 27 Dec 1884 whose name was not given on the register but the mother's name appears as "Susan E. Fast". And finally, another daughter was born in 1889 with the name of "Emma L. Fast" and it is highly likely that her name was Emma Laurine in honor of the wife.
