My dad (George, whom they called Lake) was kicked by a horse when he was two years old and wore a glass eye from then on. He was a chemist, and worked for Grasselli in Clarksburg, West Virginia, where I was born, then transferred to Owens Illinois Glass plant in Fairmont where we lived when my mother died.
