  General Notes:

The son of Henry & Elizabeth (Morgenthal) Kohler, in 1860 he was a carpenter living in Monaghan Township, York County, Pennsylvania. He stood 5' 10" tall and had auburn hair and brown eyes.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted in Mechanicsburg, Cumberland County, August 25, 1864, mustered into federal service at Harrisburg August 27 as a private with Co. I, 200th Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company May 30, 1865.

He married Sarah Elenor Martin and fathered Charlotte (b. 11/21/67), Frank (b. 09/09/69), Jennie A. "Jane" (b. 10/01/71 - married a Fishel), Benjamin Franklin (b. 10/29/73), Edwin (b. @1876), Leonard (b. 1880), and Charles (b. ?). He died in Monaghan Township, York County, from "uremia following cardiac dilatation."
