His actual given name is somewhat of a mystery; the birth records index for Cedar County, Iowa show it only as Dewey Linn yet Linn family history indicates that it was George Dewey Linn. The census records are somewhat mixed in that they show it both ways depending upon which census you are viewing. The Social Security Death Index shows his name as George D. Linn.
